Today is the day that I, Torneko, the greatest merchant in the kingdom, begin my new journal! My, that is a pompous opening, isn't it? But Nina suggested that I keep a record of some of my adventures, and I must admit that it is a very good idea. She is so good at ideas. At any rate, I don't quite know what I want to write here. Frankly, there's always so much going on in this supposedly quiet little village that I have no idea where to start. But I suppose I'll make do.

Paulo thinks I should write about all of the "mean, nasty monsters" that I run into on some of my dungeon expeditions, and how I "beat 'em all up!" *chuckle* I have to admire his enthusiasm. He'll be a fine man when he grows up; I'm very proud of him. But then, I'm proud of everyone in this village; they pulled together so well supporting me when I fought against the evil of… Well, that's a story for another time. There's just so much to think about and write about that perhaps I should begin at the beginning…
